Following its successful presentation in New Delhi, Nature Morte presents Shapes of Time II, opening at the gallery's Mumbai space. Bringing together a diverse group of artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, installation and mixed media, the exhibition considers time not as an abstract idea, but as something embedded within artistic practice itself.

Some works emerge through years of repetition and material experimentation, while others draw from personal histories, architecture, landscape, memory and the rhythms of everyday life. Across the exhibition, time is understood through process: in the accumulation of marks, the transformation of materials, the persistence of memory and the slow evolution of an idea.

Everyday experiences become starting points for works that unfold gradually, revealing layers of meaning over time. Paper, wood, textiles, found objects and photographic archives become carriers of memory, while each artist's distinctive approach reflects years of sustained inquiry. Through the meditative abstractions of Mona Rai, the material investigations of Manish Nai, the photographic inquiries of Annu Palakunnathu Matthew, and the conceptual interventions of Thukral & Tagra, the exhibition opens onto broader conversations shared across the practices of the participating artists. Whether through labour-intensive techniques, acts of collecting, observation or reconstruction, the works reveal how materials retain histories and how images continue to evolve long after they are first conceived.

Working across diverse media and generations, Shapes of Time II celebrates practices that privilege patience over immediacy and process over spectacle. Rather than proposing a singular narrative, the exhibition unfolds through multiple perspectives, bringing together artists whose practices remain connected by a sustained engagement with time as lived experience—measured not by chronology, but through memory, material and the act of making itself.
